PitchMonster vs Synthesia

The Synthesia Alternative Built for Sales Role-Play

Synthesia is a great AI video tool. Role-play is not what it was built for — Video Agents is one feature inside a video suite, and it is still on a waitlist. PitchMonster does role-play and coaching as the whole product: deep scenario setup, scoring grounded in your sales data, and an AI Coach that debriefs every rep.

Why PitchMonster for role-play

A few reasons teams choose PitchMonster for role-play and keep Synthesia for video

Role-play is a feature on a video tool — and it is still on a waitlist

Synthesia is an AI video generator. Avatars, voices, dubbing, translation — that is the core product, and it is good at it. Video Agents, the interactive role-play feature, sits under “Engage” alongside everything else and is marked Coming Soon with a join-waitlist button. PitchMonster does one thing and ships it today: reps practise realistic conversations with AI buyers, get scored against your playbook, and talk to an AI Coach. Role-play is not a tab in our product. It is the product.

Shallow setup is why scoring drifts. Deep setup is why ours holds

Synthesia’s flow is “prompt your scenario” — pick who the viewer talks to, add a knowledge source, set a goal. That is fast, but a thin setup gives the model little to anchor on, so the scorecard tends to reward the wrong things and invent feedback that was never in the call. PitchMonster builds the buyer from 40+ parameters out of your real sales data, calls, and docs, and scores against a scorecard editor you control line by line. The more the setup knows, the less the scoring guesses.

The AI Coach and a real CSM — what a video platform does not have

After a PitchMonster session, the AI Coach opens a conversation. What did you notice? What felt off? What would you do differently? The rep self-diagnoses before they ever see the score, so the insight sticks. Synthesia ends a role-play with a scorecard and analytics — useful, but passive feedback gets read and forgotten. And there is no one on the video side whose job is to stand up your role-play program. Every PitchMonster rollout gets a dedicated CSM who defines skill gaps, connects your tools, uploads your playbooks, and builds your first scenario library before reps log in.

Inside Synthesia Video Agents

What Synthesia’s role-play actually looks like

Synthesia’s own “How it works” flow, captured from synthesia.io/features/video-agents (June 2026). Three steps: prompt a scenario, share a video, read a scorecard.

Synthesia Video Agents — step 1, “Prompt your scenario” (from synthesia.io/features/video-agents)

Prompt your scenario

Setup is a few free-text fields. Pick who the viewer talks to, add a knowledge source, set a goal. The agent is defined by role, personality, tone, and answer length — a thin brief for the model to score against.

Synthesia Video Agents — step 2, “Share your video” (from synthesia.io/features/video-agents)

Share your video

Publish to an LMS or a link. Learners open the link, talk to the avatar, practise through real-time interaction. The role-play lives as a video asset, not a dedicated practice workspace.

Synthesia Video Agents — step 3, “Track progress” (from synthesia.io/features/video-agents)

Track progress

A scorecard, then analytics. Each role-play ends with a scorecard of strengths and areas to improve. Useful, but passive — no coaching conversation, and the score is only as good as that thin setup in step 1.

The same three jobs, built deeper

Before a rep types a word they pick the mode that matches the real call — face-to-face with an avatar, phone, or screen sharing. The buyer is built from your real sales data, scoring runs against a scorecard you control, and every session ends with the AI Coach running a Socratic debrief — not just a number on a card.

Been with them since day one. Love that team actively updating the product. It fits our sales techstack and user interface is way more simple than role-play modules in LMS or Enablement platforms we checked before. Ready-made role-plays are a saver for us since we lack time to generate training content.
